THINGS TO REMEMBER
1. Post
Office established Feb. 25, 1825. It
was called Fayette.
2. Dr Jacob Burgess was 1st Physician. He came in 1811 and died 1855
3. Albert Dow was an early comer and lived in SC for
19 yrs. Was a State Senator
4. 1st election for members of Assembly occurred in
1813. In Hanover, which then comprised
Sheridan and Villanova, casted 112 votes
5.1st Town Meeting was alleged to have been
held April 5, 1814
6.In 1870, Silver Creek had 666 inhabitants.
7.1st school house stood on Main St where Mrs Kelsey now lives

9.Oliver Lee probably SC 1st merchant-1827
10. Luther Heaton opened Grocery store in June 1825
11.Jacob Morrison came here after War of 1812 and
started Tannery
12.A man named Wheeler operated a Lime Kiln on
Newberry St in 1825
13.The schooner "Victory" was launched
here in 1827. The steamer "W.F.P. Taylor" was built here . It was lost on Lake
Michigan in 1837.
14.1st train of the Buffalo and State Line R/R ran
thought SC in 1852
15.Sunday School was organized in 1825. Luther
Heaton was supt.
16.Library was started in 1839 or 1840. Dr.
Jeremiah Ellsworth, Major Swift, and a
Mr. Radford were trustees. Amos Dow
was librarian.
17. Bank of SC was established in 1839. Oliver Lee was president, Chauncey Smith
cashier. In 1841, George W. Tew
became cashier. Theodore Stewart was teller from Oct. 1866
to May 13, 1876 when the bank ceased to do business.
18.Abriatha Gates began manufacture of Shoe Pegs in 1832.
19.W.H. Stevens established bakery in 1835. His shop
was on the lot where R.J. Quale now
resides.

1. Ezra Convis was 1st postmaster
2.Abel Cleveland, David Dickinson and John E. Howard
were the 1st white settlers in SC
3.1st marriage in Tn of Hanover was solemnized in
1807, Elizabeth Mack and Judge Richard Smith being the contracting
parties. Smith was one of the
earliest school teachers here.
4. In 1806, John E. Howard was the only white
resident in SC
5.Aboutn 1805 Cleveland and Dickinson started a saw
mill. They also had a "mortar and
pestal"
for
grinding corn.
6.In 1814, Artemas Clothier bought a portion of lot
73, the south portion of SC. He died in 1879.
